About the Role
Our client, a leading quantity surveying and cost management consultancy, is seeking a Professionally Registered Senior Quantity Surveyor with experience in the construction and built environment sector to head their QS department. The successful candidate will lead cost planning, contract administration, and project financial control while mentoring junior professionals and maintaining high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare detailed cost estimates, feasibility studies, Bills of Quantities, and schedules of rates.
• Manage valuations, progress payments, and final account settlements.
• Conduct cost analysis, value engineering, and recommend cost-saving opportunities.
• Prepare and evaluate tender documents, contract terms, and change orders.
• Monitor contract variations, claims, and ensure robust financial control.
• Prepare financial and performance reports (daily, weekly, monthly, and close-out).
• Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and clients to ensure compliance and delivery.
• Conduct site inspections to verify progress against valuations.
• Advise on contractual, financial, and risk management matters.
Requirements
Registered Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS) with SACQSP (essential).
Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying (postgraduate qualification advantageous).
Minimum 10 years’ post-qualification experience in the construction and built environment sector, ideally within a consulting quantity surveying or cost management firm.
Strong commercial insight and proven record of managing valuations, cost control, and final accounts.
Proficiency in WinQS, Excel, and other cost estimation software.
Strong knowledge of JBCC contracts and South African building regulations.
Experience in contract management, cost forecasting, and financial reporting.
