
About the Role
Our client, a leading EPCM consulting engineering firm, is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary project delivery team within the mining and heavy industrial sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering solutions across complex projects, including design development, 3D model integration, layout coordination, technical reviews, and project execution support.
This role requires a technically strong engineer with extensive EPCM experience, strong 3D and layout capability, and the ability to operate within fast-paced multidisciplinary project environments.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Engineering & Design
Define and support project scope development in collaboration with Engineering Managers and project teams.
• Perform:
o Mechanical system analysis
o Hydraulic modelling
o Stress analysis
o Equipment sizing
o Tank, pressure vessel, and bin design
• Develop mechanical engineering designs in accordance with project standards, codes, and client requirements.
• Prepare and review:
o Technical specifications
o Data sheets
o Engineering calculations
o Technical reports and memos
3D Design & Layout Coordination
• Prepare and review 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings.
• Support plant layout development and multidisciplinary design integration.
• Participate in model reviews and interface management between disciplines.
• Ensure layout designs support operability, maintainability, and constructability requirements.
Project Delivery
• Deliver assigned engineering activities within project budget and schedule requirements.
• Provide input into:
o Capital cost estimates
o Operating cost estimates
o Proposal development
• Support construction and commissioning activities as required.
• Manage small capital and maintenance projects where applicable.
Technical Leadership
• Review and evaluate technical work completed by:
o Junior Engineers
o Designers
o Technicians
o Technologists
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance within the engineering team.
• Assist in preparing monthly engineering status reports and project updates.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 10 – 15 years’ experience within:
Heavy industrial projects
Mining / Minerals processing environments
EPCM / consulting engineering environments
Proven experience in:
Mechanical design engineering
Plant layout and 3D modelling
Multidisciplinary project coordination
Site construction and commissioning experience advantageous.
Professional Registration advantageous (Pr Eng / Pr Tech)
Strong knowledge and experience with:
3D data-centric design systems
Plant layout systems and workflows
Engineering management systems
Software experience advantageous:
