About the Role
Our client in the mining sector is recruiting an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support large-scale mining and mineral processing projects across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and India. The role focuses on leading advanced geotechnical studies, performing conceptual and detailed designs, mentoring junior engineers, and bidding for new work while supporting project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead advanced geotechnical studies with delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope.
• Perform conceptual and detailed geotechnical engineering design.
• Participate in scoping requirements for proposals.
• Assist with growing the local geotechnical discipline across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and India.
• Participate in and contribute to design reviews.
• Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications, and design criteria.
• Review and evaluate technical work prepared by engineers, designers, and others.
• Develop factual and interpretive geotechnical reports.
• Ensure relevant technical experts are involved in the design process as required and facilitate the sharing of technical expertise across projects and global offices.
• Scope, manage, and participate in field investigations for projects.
• Provide specialized geotechnical advice and analytical services.
• Prepare engineering calculations and technical specifications.
• Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports.
• Provide input to engineering, operating, and capital cost estimates.
• Undertake construction supervision and management dependent upon project demands.
• Support site engineering teams to provide technical solutions and timely responses to technical queries.
• Liaise with prospective clients to win work.
• Assist with growing the geotechnical team sustainably based on expanding workload.
• Work to ensure the implementation of safety in design and integrity principles in design documentation.
• Assist the Engineering Manager in meeting project scope, cost, and schedule requirements.
• Review and evaluate technical work prepared by engineers, designers, and technologists.
• Ensure adherence to project procedures and standards.
• Provide site support and timely response to technical queries during construction.
• Work to ensure the implementation of safety in design and integrity principles in design documentation.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university.
Post-graduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering (essential).
Registered as a Professional Engineer.
10+ years' experience in the relevant geotechnical field within the consulting industry.
Experience working on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards.
Strong written skills to prepare reports, proposals, and other project deliverables.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Good planning and organizational skills.
Ability to function without supervision.
Good safety awareness.
Experience working on large mining or heavy industrial facilities.
Experience working on projects across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, or India.
Experience mentoring junior engineers.
Exposure to EPCM or large engineering project environments.
